Had a great time in Daytona with Uncle Bill - he took us around to visit all the old haunts he and my dad frequented as children. We also drove by my mom's parent's old house - the place I most remember spending time in during grandparent visits in my childhood. Ended the "tour" on the beach itself, where I spent many summer days building castles and playing in the waves.
Then, we moved inland to Silver Springs for a couple of days to visit with Kathy and Larry, my dad's childhood friends and my godparents. They live right on the St John's river in a beautiful home. Marc witnessed the shuttle launch - a first for him. We took a day trip to New Port Richey so Coralyn could meet great-grandparents Nano and Marion, then headed up to Tallahassee via a stop for dinner in Gainesville with Don & Stephanie - fellow Bahamas Tilloolians.
We're wrapping up a week in Tallahassee now - visiting with my brother, Tom, and some other family friends. We've had wonderful visits with Coralyn's Uncle Tom (pictured above), Aunt Chrystal & cousin Lexi, the Cromer/Penny family, and many more friends like Sarah J & Susan C. Took my little family to Wakulla Springs - rode the Riverboat Tour and swam in the cool, clear spring. Got on my bike and rode the 16 miles from Tallahassee to St Marks. Just a short ride from what I was doing pre-baby, but it felt great! Can't wait to get the miles up again.
We're staying in the RV park my dad helps to manage when he's in town and everyone here is fabulously friendly towards us. We met an extraordinary guy from the site across the way from us. A former pro motocross competitor, he became a quadrapelagic following a motocross accident, but with lots of therapy - incredibly - he's now mobile and road cycling across the country. He and some friends are cycling from San Diego, CA to St Augustine, FL to raise awareness about spinal cord injury, rehabilitation and the amazing results that can be had. We visited with them in their rig and Coralyn was taped for their video blog. Check out the blog for August 19th to see Coralyn's video debut and their story, here: http://www.riseabovetour.com/
Coralyn absolutely loves being outside. Fussy times are short-lived when we can get her in the out-of-doors. Daily walks (and walks, and walks) are a set part of our schedule these days. She had her first swimming experience earlier this week in the park pool. It's amazing how much she enjoyed it. She smiled and seemed fascinated by the feel of the water. We suspected she'd like it, as bathtime is always a popular activity for her. We have an outdoors girl!
We're heading out for the last stops on our Tour - into Texas. We'd like to go through New Orleans on the way, and of course we're sure to get sidetracked a bit by local sights and fun. Onward, Baby Tour!
