On the road! We've been traveling for almost 2 weeks towing Trixie, our faithful Airstream travel trailer. Coralyn is a champ. Our progress is slower than it used to be pre-newborn, but we've gotten into a groove with this style of travel and everything has slowed to a very pleasant pace.
After getting our housesitter settled in, we headed out on the afternoon of the 15th. It took us from Sunday until Wednesday to get to our first Michigan destination, but we camped in some beautiful state parks on the way. We've been in Michigan since the 18th, mostly in the upper portion of the state - exploring, relaxing, swimming and hiking. Upper Michigan is beautiful! There's so much to do and it's such a gorgeous place. I have now been in the waters of three of the Great Lakes - Huron, Michigan & Superior, plus dunked myself in various rivers and interior lakes. We even went tubing one day.
We are currently in the Detroit area at Marc's mom's house (Coralyn's Babcia - a polish word for grandma) for the weekend. We're here from Thurs-Mon afternoon and Marc's mom is organizing a big picnic party on Sunday to welcome the baby. She expects 30-40 people. It should be fun, but might be a bit overwhelming for Coralyn (and maybe me, too). We'll excuse ourselves as much as we need to, to nurse and cuddle.
Travel is much slower with a baby - we stop every 2-3 hours for about an hour to feed Coralyn, change her and cuddle with her. I don't like having her in the carseat for long stretches of time, so this is working out well. Our longest travel day has been about 12 hours, but we stopped a lot and only went 400 miles. Having Trixie is a dream. No matter where we are, we have a consistent, private, comfy place to be. Last week, we stayed put for a few days with some family friends of Marc's while they were on their annual family camping trip, and that was a blast. Our next big push will be from here to Florida, but we've got a few stops to make in between along the east coast so it won't be bad. Just slow. Time slows down, for sure, but I'm loving this baby thing! It's so fulfilling. Cora is already changing so much - her daddy can make her smile nearly every time he interacts with her and she's so alert and aware of her world. She is a very peaceful soul.
We've been taking tons of photos- I'll be putting more in Coralyn's baby album soon. Here's one from our stay in Glennie, MI, where we spent 4 days camping with the Gabalis family on our way to the UP.
