something. Boy, it’s been a looong while since I’ve blogged anything at all. Yep. I’m a blogging slug. I really have nothing “interesting” to blog this time, but have received some requests to just blog SOMEthing. ANYthing. So, here goes something.
Without boring you with too many details, here’s an overview of what I’ve been up to since (yeesh) late March:
Trixie in (is) da HOUSE:
We bought an Airstream trailer that we - and the previous owner - call Trixie. She’s sleek, she’s modern, she’s cool as hell. We’ve taken her a few great places so far: like a cruise through beautiful Montana and Idaho, but plan to tow her around a lot more next summer (more on that, later). She’s a 22 footer - perfect for us and our semi-minimalist traveling ways. And as we discovered later this past summer after our garage was built, she backs easily and fits perfectly in the trailer slip we made off our alleyway. Woohoo!
My Brother’s Wedding:
Went back to Tallahassee for my brother’s nuptials. It was a lovely 5 days spent showing Marc the pleasures of boiled peanuts purchased along the side of a country road, sweet potato pie, live oak canopy roads and real southern sweet tea. The wedding was lovely, as well. Tom’s wife is a great match for him. We love her.
Cycling:
Accomplished my first ever bike race – ascending Lookout Mountain, a 4.5 mile climb with 1220 feet of elevation gain. Yes, I brought up the rear in my Cat 4 class – although not by all that much, I’m proud to say. Later on that day when Marc and his friend raced up it “just to see what they could do” – turned out my time was faster. Little victories make me happy. :)
Wedding Party:
Hosted a big shindig for ourselves to celebrate our marriage. Since we didn’t have a ceremony when we actually tied the knot, we decided to host a huge BBQ with a great local band and invite friends and family for the party. It turned into an entire weekend celebration and was a blast. We had so much fun, we might do it again next year.
World Series:
Game 1 of the World Series just happened to fall exactly on Marc’s birthday. Since Marc grew up in Detroit, we spent half a day on the phone with TicketBastard and got 8 tickets to the game. We took 6 friends and family and had a great time, even though the Tigers didn’t come through in the end – or even in that game. But the weather was fab, the company pleasant, and a memory was made. Hell if I know how to top that one for next year’s birthday.
Tejas:
Traveled to Texas for Thanksgiving to spend the holiday with my aunt, uncle and cousins. I haven’t spent a holiday with any member of my family since 1993, so this was a special treat for me. After a few days of bonding, Marc and I drove a bit further south and attended the UT football game with some friends of Marc’s. UT didn’t win, but that didn’t put a damper on our good time in the least. Sitting out in the sunshine for an afternoon drinking a $4.50 bottle of water was good enough for me!
Some slightly bigger news:
If your eyes haven’t yet rolled back in your head from my riveting tale of “What I Did Last Spring and Summer”, here’s some more significant news. We’re pregnant. Halfway through the 4th month, in fact. It’s been a long and winding road for us and we’re still not out of the woods yet, but we’re feeling secure enough to announce what we view as an exciting, joyful, and rapidly approaching alteration of our current lifestyle. Lifestyle change is expected to commence in late May or early June. Although in reality, some of our lifestyle has already changed. I’m planning to take my allotted FMLA 12 weeks next summer and we’re hoping to be up for going on a country-spanning Tour De Baby with Trixie in tow to visit people we love. But the primary plan is to spend most of the time off bonding as a family unit and welcoming our new addition. And sleeping in short spurts. Maybe.
