Eschew Mundanity. I've noticed that my blog has disintegrated into - or maybe it's always been - merely a "to-do" or "done" list of activities in my life. Which is why I recently changed the tag line (see left). There's really nothing wrong with this type of blog. There are many blogs I come across that are just that, and never intend to be anything more. They have their audience firmly in mind which primarily consists of friends and family that are interested in hearing about the life of the blogger, but not interested enough to engage in more personal one-on-one contact. Let's face it, it's much easier to check a website occasionally than to make the effort to actively stay in touch. I'm guilty of it myself. From the blogger's perspective, a blog is a handy way to shotgun blast (yeah, I was in marketing at one point) information to a wide audience of people, without having to make one-on-one contact with everyone. It's just easier for everyone involved. I think of it as a holiday form letter for all seasons. Quite frankly, it's promoting laziness in me.
No more, I say. I'm embarking on a quest to actually post *interesting* blogs - at least blogs that are interesting to *me*. This doesn't mean they won't still be about my life, and I won't occasionally include a to-do list here and there, but as I read through my own blog and visit some of the other blogs I frequent, I find I'm bored with mine. It's more work to be interesting. It's more rewarding to be interesting. It's more interesting to be interesting.
This doesn't necessarily mean I'll be posting more frequently. In fact, it's going to take some time to get into the habit of writing in an interesting manner again. But instead of consulting my Palm Pilot for things to post, I'm actually going to attempt to awaken a portion of my brain that's been dormant in my writing. We'll see how it goes.
And if you're still interested in hearing about the mundane details of my life, drop me a line. I'm happy to share.
