Gerry Roach. I met Gerry Roach today. He was at work to give a presentation and showed some amazing pix from one of his Alaska expeditions. I brought in the books I have of his and he signed them all for me. Was able to chat with him for a bit, too. How cool is that.
For those of you that don't know,
Gerry Roach is a well-known world-class mountaineer. He has some incredible accomplishments:
He became only the second person to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents in 1985.
He has been on 16 Alaskan expeditions, 10 Andean expeditions and seven Himalayan expeditions, including first ascents in the kingdom of Bhutan.
In 1997, he summited 26,360-foot Gasherbrum II in the Karakorum.
In 2000, he became the first person to climb the 10 highest peaks in North America.
In 2003, he became the first person to climb every major peak more than 16,000 feet in North America.
He's written a number of books, including two that many of us here in Colorado own: Colorado Fourteeners and Colorado Thirteeners.
You can check out more info on him
here.
This guy ROCKS. It was a real treat to meet him and have him sign my books. A definite highlight!
